Let ’em Run gears up for huge two week Kentucky Derby run in
Let ’em Run is ready for the Kentucky Derby
Countdown to the Kentucky Derby with Let ’em Run
Time is running out, but before it does, Let ‘em Run has some Kentucky Derby shows coming up that are sure to provide insight, along with special guests offering their unique perspective on this year’s race. Each of our Happy Hour shows at 3 PM leading up to the first Saturday in May will focus on specific Kentucky Derby-related topics. And we can be sure that our show on Friday, May 1st will likely go longer than a “Happy Hour”: maybe we will “Let ’em Run” a little longer that day.
Weekend Racing Spotlight
Until then, there is still plenty of quality racing to break down. This Friday, we will take a deep dive into a featured race at Keeneland — the 1 ½ mile Turf Marathon for 4-year-olds and up. Race 10 features a full field of 12 runners and offers solid value opportunities.
On Saturday, during our Runaround Show, myself and partner John “The Traveling Handicapper” will shift focus to the Late P5 at Oaklawn Park. That sequence includes the Oaklawn Handicap, where top contenders White Abarrio, Sovereignty, and Journalism are set to square off in what promises to be a must-watch showdown.
Keeneland Late P5 Recap
Here is how we performed last Saturday at Keeneland’s Late P5:
Race 7
Our top pick, #4 Ciro di Marzio, was scratched. However, our second choice, #7 Noble Confessor, stepped up and delivered the win, paying $5.64.
Race 8
Our pick, #3 Right Timing, had the experience edge but could only manage a 4th-place finish. We did hit with our first-time starter selection, #10 La Rascasse, who surged late to win and paid a strong $14.10.
Race 9
This race ended in a dead heat, with our pick #10 Segesta sharing the win with #1 Expensive Queen. Both hit the wire together, while our longshot #3 Medoro finished 3rd, though the payout was diluted due to the dead heat.
Race 10
Our intended key play, #3 Decisive Win, was scratched. The race instead went to longshot #8 Trendsetter, who delivered a massive $66.86 payout in the Lexington Stakes (G3). Notably, west coast jockey Kazushi Kimura was aboard for the victory.
Race 11
Top pick #4 Heere’s Johnny ran well but finished 2nd, as #6 West End Kid closed out the sequence. The Late P5 paid $4,023, boosted heavily by the longshot result in Race 10.
Looking Ahead
We were in the mix throughout the sequence, but ultimately came up just short of cashing. That’s racing.
Be sure to tune in Friday at 3 PM for our Happy Hour show, and again on Saturday at 12:30 as we break down the Oaklawn Late P5. Let ‘em Run can be seen on Sports Talk Florida and across multiple streaming apps and social platforms.
As always, bet smart, cheer hard: fast horses can lead to serious fun. And when it’s all said and done, Let ‘em Run.
