Kentucky Derby throws up surprises for Let ’em Run

Golden Tempo surged late in historic win at Kentucky Derby

Let ‘em Run Kentucky Derby Review of 5/2/26 and Preview of 5/9/26

The Kentucky Derby 2026 is in the books, and once again, the winner was a long shot (with a chance). Jockey Jose Ortiz, trainer Cherie DeVaux and connections for the runner will now consider whether Golden Tempo will show up at The Preakness on May 16th, and put in his claim to be the possible next Triple Crown Winner.

Let’ em Run broke down the Late P5 at Churchill on the 1st Saturday in May, and here is how we made out.

Churchill Downs Saturday May 2nd

Race 8

Our top choice #1 Englishman put in a nice bid at the wire, but the best outcome here was a 2nd place finish.

Race 9

BRISnet.com showed its value here, as our top pick, #4 Stark Contrast took top honors and paid $4.40 for the effort. This runner was #1 Prime Power by 10 points, and that increases win percentages by 55% on a runner who comes into a race with that level of confidence. We also had the 2nd place finisher, #12 Remember Mamba, who was definitely compromised by an outside post.

Race 10

We completely missed the boat here, as #6 Knightsbridge did not fire at all, and finished 6th. Our top pick, #1 Disco Time was shuffled back from the start, and finished far back.

Race 11

Back to the winners circle with top choice #6 Rhetorical, which was a runner we touted as a horse to take a stand on in the sequence, and he came through in aces, and paid $5.92.

Race 12 – The Kentucky Derby

We were disappointed when on Saturday morning, our top selection, #9 The Puma was scratched. Fortunately it was not anything too serious, as an apparent infection which required antibiotics put him on the sidelines. We hope to possibly see him running in The Preakness on May 16th.

Preview of 5/9/26

We will be looking to break down the Late P5 on Saturday 5/9/26, which includes The Gr2 Ruffian Stakes and The Gr3 Peter Pan Stakes races. So tune in for our Happy Hour on Friday at 3pm and then again on Saturday at 12:30 for our Podcasts. We can be seen on Sports Talk Media Network and multiple streaming apps and social channels.

Looking Ahead

We also recognize that we need to be better moving forward. A lot of people count on us for their betting needs, and that responsibility is something we take seriously. Our goal is to continue improving our analysis and delivering stronger results.

To do that, we are looking to expand our coverage to more tracks, bring in new faces to the podcasts, and introduce fresh ideas into our approach. The objective is simple: find more winners, uncover better value, and give our audience the best possible insight as we move ahead.

As always, “bet smart, cheer hard, fast forces can lead to serious fun and in the end Let ‘em Run.”
