South Korean K-Pop star Wheesung was reportedly found dead inside his home on Monday — and police are investigating whether his death was drug-related.
The body of the singer-songwriter was discovered inside his apartment last evening by Fire Department officials after he went into cardiac arrest, according to the New York Times.
The newspaper said Wheesung — whose real name was Choi Whee-sung — had a history of drug abuse — and investigators with the Seoul Gwangjin Police Station were looking into the possibility he overdosed.
Wheesung launched his music career in 2002 with the release of his popular record, “Like a Movie,” which won several awards that year.
He went on to record over a dozen albums while penning songs for some of South Korea’s biggest K-Pop bands, namely Twice and Super Junior. He also landed parts in musicals, playing the roles of Zorro and Elvis Presley.
But, his career reportedly took a wrong turn in 2021 after he was convicted of purchasing and using the powerful sedative known as Propofol.
Wheesung was given a suspended, one-year prison sentence under the caveat he would not commit another crime, according to the NYT. He was also ordered to pay a fine of $41,000 and enter a drug treatment program.
Wheesung was 43.

The shoplifters who allegedly used a bowel movement as a distraction to make off with a basket full of goods are no longer on the loose … cops arrested the people they believe are the pooping bandits.

The incident happened back in December but now police say they have identified and arrested the couple, who they refer to as “Mr. Clean” and “Ms. Dookie.”
Cops say 57-year-old Tina Joyce is the one who dropped a deuce in the store … after helping 36-year-old Nikevee Curry load up a shopping cart with cleaning supplies and beer.
Police say the poop served as a way to occupy a store employee, who was apparently busy cleaning up the crap when Curry beelined it out of the store without paying for nearly $500 worth of goods.
Law enforcement says the couple hopped in a white van and drove off … and they identified the suspects after tips from the community and a police investigation.
Curry was in custody for an unrelated battery investigation in a nearby county when cops confronted him with surveillance footage from the crappy caper … and police say he eventually admitted to his involvement.
As for Joyce, the one who had the bowel movement in the store, cops claim she’s got 14 prior convictions for theft … though there’s no word if she’s pulled this same stunt before.
