John McGovern is stacking up endorsements from municipal leaders in western Palm Beach County as he campaigns for the Palm Beach County School Board.
McGovern’s campaign announced that he has secured support from Royal Palm Beach Mayor Jeff Hmara and Vice Mayor Richard Valuntas; Belle Glade Vice Mayor Joaquin Almazan; Wellington Mayor Michael Napoleone and Vice Mayor Tanya Siskind; and Westlake Mayor JP O’Connor and Vice Mayor Greg Langowski.
McGovern, a Wellington Council member, is hoping the regional show of support will bolster his bid for District 6, which covers a large swath of the county’s western communities.
“I am incredibly honored to earn the support of these respected Mayors and Vice Mayors who tirelessly serve our western communities, and are passionate advocates for their schools,” McGovern said in a statement on Wednesday.
“Our municipalities and our schools are deeply connected. When we work together, we create safer campuses, stronger neighborhoods, and better outcomes for our students.”
McGovern has previously announced support from organized labor and public safety groups, including the Classroom Teachers Association, the Palm Beach County Police Benevolent Association, and the Professional Firefighters and Paramedics of Palm Beach County, IAFF Local 2928.
McGovern’s platform centers on school safety, closing achievement gaps, boosting pay and support for teachers and staff, expanding access to modern technology and maintaining transparent oversight of the School District’s multibillion-dollar budget.
The race for the District 6 seat on the Palm Beach County School Board is shaping up to be competitive. McGovern, who has emphasized his experience working with educators and local governments, is seeking to succeed Marcia Andrews, who opted not to seek another term.
Also filed for the contest are Barbara Miedema, Donald Persson, Widline Pierre and Wanda Rosario-Schoenfeld.
All significantly trail McGovern in fundraising. McGovern kicked off 2026 with nearly $167,000 raised between his official campaign account and his political committee, Team McGovern.
