John McGovern raises $42K in Q1, crosses $200K in Palm Beach County School Board bid

John McGovern is continuing to build momentum in the race for Palm Beach County School Board, District 6.

McGovern’s campaign announced he raised more than $42,000 in the first quarter of 2026, pushing his total haul past $209,000 between his campaign account and political committee, Team McGovern.

The campaign also rolled out a fresh batch of endorsements from municipal leaders in the county’s western communities. His new backers include Greenacres Mayor Chuck Shaw, Wellington Vice Mayor Maria Antuña, Royal Palm Beach Vice Mayor Sylvia Sharps, Loxahatchee Groves Council member Paul Coleman, and Wellington Council members Stephen Levin and Amanda Silvestri.

The update adds to what has already been a steady show of strength for McGovern, a longtime Wellington Council member and former Vice Mayor who has spent nearly a year assembling what looks increasingly like a broad-based coalition in the race.

“These continued fundraising gains show that people are looking for leadership with real experience and a proven track record,” McGovern said. “Earning the support of so many respected community leaders reinforces that our campaign is built on trust, results, and a commitment to doing what’s right for our students and families.”

The new numbers give McGovern another opportunity to frame himself as the early financial powerhouse in the contest for the seat now held by School Board member Marcia Andrews, who declined to seek another term representing District 6.

McGovern is far outpacing his opponents. Barbara Miedema has raised just over $23,000. Wanda Rosario-Schoenfeld has raised just over $4,800. Widline Pierre has only pulled in about $1,500, while Donald Persson has collected just over $700.

McGovern has also secured the unanimous endorsement of the Palm Beach Classroom Teachers Association. He gathered another wave of endorsements in late February.

McGovern was first appointed to the Village Council in 2015, later won election to the seat, and served multiple stints as Vice Mayor. He also chairs Wellington’s delegation to the Western Communities Council, giving him an existing base in many of the same communities that make up the School Board district.

District 6 covers western Palm Beach County. The election will take place Aug. 18.
