The event will gather together a world-class eco celebrity line-up where McCartney will receive her honour ‘Fashion Steward’ from environmental activist Jane Fonda. Nature historian and TV presenter Sir David Attenborough will also be honoured at the event alongside environmental icons such as Jane Goodall, Sylvia Earle, and Nemonte Nenquimo, “celebrated for their extraordinary contribution to nature and climate action”.
The NAT? It’s a new entity “dedicated to mobilising capital for nature-positive initiatives” that will bring together leaders, investors and innovators on 21 September at the start of Climate Week on the eve of the UN General Assembly in New York City.
Attending alongside McCartney and Fonda will be fellow environmental advocate Harrison Ford plus marine biologist Earle, zoologist/anthropologist Goodall, model/UN goodwill ambassador Sabrina Elba, environmentalist/activist Wanjira Mathai, ocean conservationist Titouan Bernicot, and indigenous activist Nenquimo appointed to serve as ‘NATure Stewards’.
The NAT Gala “will celebrate the awe and wonder of the natural world and pay tribute to those driving change for the planet” and is built on a bold premise “that culture can accelerate finance for nature”.
Also build a “more than a traditional fundraising event”, it will “blend creativity with action – a convergence of ideas, influence, and cultural expression – to help close the $711 billion nature finance gap”.
The NAT Gala is also supported by The Climate Pledge (Amazon), L’Oréal, Spotify, Deloitte, ServiceNow, Bank of America, Salesforce, and Global University Systems.
