James Uthmeier makes the case for Evan Power to win in CD 2

The Attorney General praised the job Power has done leading the state GOP.

Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier knows who he wants to represent Tallahassee in Congress. He’s endorsing Republican Party of Florida (RPOF) Chair Evan Power to succeed retiring U.S. Rep. Neal Dunn.

“Evan Power is a proven grassroots leader who helped build the strongest conservative movement in the country,” Uthmeier posted on X. “I’m proud to endorse him for Congress and confident he’ll stand by President (Donald) Trump to keep fighting for Florida’s values in Washington.”

Power announced he would run for Congress in Florida’s 2nd Congressional District shortly after Dunn said he would not seek another term. The party leader embraced Uthmeier’s support.

“Thank you, Attorney General James Uthmeier, it’s been a pleasure to fight alongside you as Florida leads the way in conservative policy!” Power posted.

Uthmeier is the latest high-profile political figure to endorse Power. Members of Congress including GOP U.S. Reps. Aaron Bean, Vern Buchanan, Kat Cammack, Randy Fine and Anna Paulina Luna have all endorsed him.

Notably, Uthmeier also holds close connections to some of the biggest names in Florida politics. He previously served as Gov. Ron DeSantis’ Chief of Staff before the Governor appointed him to his current Cabinet post last year.

Power first rose to RPOF Chair in the wake of a sex scandal that prompted former state Chair Christian Ziegler’s resignation. Power later won re-election to a full term. He also served for years in the Leon County Republican Party. Power has said he intends to remain Chair of the state party through the election cycle.

He is currently one of four Republicans running for Dunn’s seat. Others include former U.S. Senate candidate Keith Gross, insurance company owner Nick Lewis and Austin Rogers, the former General Counsel to U.S. Sen. Rick Scott.

Three Democrats had already filed for the seat against Dunn: lawyer Yen Bailey, foreign aid professional Amanda Maria Green and tech entrepreneur Nic Zateslo.
