Attorney General James Uthmeier has picked up another key endorsement in his first campaign for the office.
The Florida Police Benevolent Association (PBA) is throwing its support behind Uthmeier. The organization representing 30,000 police officers in the Sunshine State points out its members have collaborated with Uthmeier in many law enforcement policies since he was appointed to the office in early 2025.
“Throughout your tenure as Attorney General, your commitment to public safety and the men and women who risk their lives every day maintaining public safety has been second to none,” said John Kazanjian, President of both the Florida and Palm Beach County PBAs.
“Now more than ever, our members need a strong and powerful voice in the Office of Attorney General, who will be 100% committed to enforcing law and order and maintaining public safety. We need an advocate who will always respect our partnership with our federal counterparts and who will always put the pursuit of justice before any personal political ideology.”
Uthmeier became Attorney General after his predecessor, Ashley Moody, to the U.S. Senate to replace Marco Rubio, who became Secretary of State. Gov. Ron DeSantis appointed Uthmeier to the Attorney General’s job. Uthmeier was DeSantis’ Chief of Staff before being appointed to the AG slot.
Uthmeier has racked up dozens of endorsements in recent months. But the Florida Republican Party endorsement in January was likely the most influential as the GOP apparatus in the state is now part of his campaign machine.
As of now, only fellow Republican Steven Leskovich, a long-time attorney, is challenging Uthmeier in the GOP Primary Election set for Aug. 18.
Whoever wins that race advances to the Nov. 3 General Election to face the winner of the Democratic Primary Election. Former State Sen. Jose Javier Rodriguez along with Jim Lewis, both of South Florida, are the candidates in the Democratic Primary. Lewis ran unsuccessfully for Fort Lauderdale Mayor in 2024.
