Failed UK beauty chain Bodycare is to disappear from the high street with its administrators saying on Monday that its remaining 56 stores will close. That will mean another 444 jobs being lost.

The business had previously announced two chunks of store closures with 30 having been revealed only last week. So far around 150 shops have shut and 1,000 jobs have gone, but there had been hopes that it could continue to function as a physical chain in some form.

It had fallen into administration earlier this month following a few tough years after the pandemic, despite having been a profitable chain for decades before the Covid crisis hit.

Before its collapse the company had employed as many as 1,500 people.

The administrators are continuing to explore options for the company’s assets, including the Bodycare brand itself, so there’s a possibility that it could continue in some way and even if that was only online, there would be the potential to open stores in the future.

As mentioned, the company that had been founded on a market stall more than 50 years ago, had once been healthily profitable and despite losses after the pandemic it had been planning a stock market listing last year.
