A Historic Season That Reset the Standard

Hodgson arrived in March 2025 and immediately transformed the Bulls. USF finished 25‑8, tied the program record for wins, captured both the American Conference regular‑season and tournament championships, and returned to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2012 .

The Bulls also shattered multiple program records, including total points, points per game, three‑pointers made, free throws made, and road victories. Hodgson’s roster — built around Izaiyah Nelson, Joseph Pinion, and Wes Enis — became one of the deepest and most balanced units in the conference.

USF Leadership Tried to Keep Him

USF CEO of Athletics Rob Higgins praised Hodgson’s impact, noting that the university made a strong push to retain him. Higgins emphasized that Hodgson delivered exactly what he promised: championships, culture, and a foundation that elevates the program moving forward .

The Bulls now begin a national search for their 13th head coach.

Hodgson Leaves With Gratitude

Hodgson called the decision difficult, expressing appreciation for the players, staff, and community that embraced him. He said he hoped he left the program better than he found it — and the results suggest he did exactly that .

What Comes Next for USF

South Florida enters a pivotal moment. The program has momentum, returning talent, and a championship standard that Hodgson helped establish. The next coach inherits a roster built to compete immediately and a fan base energized by a breakthrough season.

USF’s rise may have been fast, but the expectations are now permanent.
