H&M latest autumn collab is with Elie Saab, will debut next month

In a world where collabs come thick and fast, the H&M autumn designer link-up usually manages to stand out from the crowd. And the retailer has just released this year’s big name — Elie Saab.

Elie Saab x H&M

It’s an interesting move given Elie Saab’s major focus on eveningwear and status as one of the world’s leading haute couture houses.

Saab founded his business as a bridalwear label in Beirut ad later expanded into eveningwear while also becoming one of the first international members of France’s prestigious Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture.

The label is a regular feature of red carpets globally with H&M saying it “reflects a vision of fashion rooted in craft, refinement, glamour and modern luxury”.

But give that the brand’s universe now extends beyond couture to ready-to-wear and accessories, there are clearly plenty of categories for the H&M collab to make the most of, although the publicity shot released to accompany the announcement focuses heavily on the brand’s evening/red carpet heritage.

We’re told the Elie Saab H&M collection “will reflect the brand’s contemporary vision, as well as its house codes. It will encompass womenswear, menswear and a range of accessories, including footwear. Highlights are embellished gowns, shimmering separates and sharply cut tailoring. Details include fine lace, gradient sequins and signature monograms”.

H&M’s creative advisor and head of design for womenswear, Ann-Sofie Johansson, called it a “landmark collaboration” and said customers can expect “a magical, ornate and glamorous collection”.

The offer will launch in select H&M stores and online on 22 October, in good time for the party season.
