Tampa-based Heritage Insurance Inc. paid homage to firefighters and other emergency responders on National First Responders Day Oct. 28 by offering a measure of gratitude.
Earlier in October, the insurance carrier sponsored the Hillsborough County Fire Rescue Foundation’s annual Firefighters Gala. The event demonstrated encouraged support and efforts for the well-being of firefighters along with safety initiatives and programs that encourage the services provided by those first responders.
It was an extension of ongoing efforts to support of Gulf Coast first responders. Heritage CEO Ernie Garateix and Associate Vice President Butch Delgado took part in a tradition initiated by Hillsborough County Fire Rescue and announcing the inaugural class of Honorary Firefighters. The two executives were invited to actually participate in some firefighting activities for a day and engaged in drills and other firefighting duties.
“It was an incredible experience to see what these heroes do up close. Being part of the honorary firefighters gave us a deeper appreciation for the courage, discipline, and heart it takes to protect our community. At Heritage, we’re proud to support and celebrate the first responders who make Florida a safer place for all,” Garateix said.
Delgado, former Tampa Police Chief, said the experience was a refreshing reminder of the work first responders provide to the community.
“I’ve had the privilege of working alongside first responders and military service members throughout my career, and I’ve seen firsthand the impact they have on our communities. Heritage is proud to continue supporting Hillsborough County Fire Rescue and our community partners who dedicate their lives to protecting others,” Delgado said.
