GPE strikes new five-year London office deal with expanding Next

Fashion/lifestyle retail giant Next has secured 11,500 sq ft of office space at the newly refurbished 31 Alfred Place in London’s Fitzrovia area of WC1. The space has been let on a five-year term from London-based property giant Great Portland Estates (GPE).

Next said it has required the additional office space to complement its existing London offices and will be moving into the building at the end of March, occupying four floors.

Alfred Place is a newly refurbished 42,000 sq ft building offering premium offices as well as a communal roof terrace, private terraces on selected floors, a spacious shared lounge and meeting room suite, and flexible wellness space. 

David Korman, GPE’s senior leasing manager, said: “The rapid and positive leasing at Alfred Place highlights the strong demand for our well-located, amenity rich, premium Fully Managed spaces, while also demonstrating the expanding appeal to larger corporates that may have initially sought a more traditional arrangement.”

In November the central London landlord reported a rebound in half-year results, reporting “strong” leasing at levels well ahead of rental values, “exceptional” development returns and “profitable” asset sales.
GPE returned to net profit showing a gain of £62.2 million for the six months ended 30 September, compared with a £154.8 million loss a year earlier.

“My mission is to educate as many people as possible on the fundamental importance of sleep for our overall health,” said Dr. Walker, an author, sleep scientist, and professor of neuroscience and psychology at the University of California, Berkeley. 

“I’m thrilled to partner with Estée Lauder, a brand that is grounded in science, to educate their consumers around the world on the impact of sleep on mind, body and skin.” 

In this role, Dr. Walker will be featured at internal and external events, press opportunities, and educational content across the brand’s channels. 

Likewise, Estée Lauder will serve as the exclusive beauty partner of Dr. Walker’s newly launched Global Sleep Education Foundation, which aims to tackle the global sleep-loss epidemic through free educational programs and support for breakthrough sleep science research.

“For more than 40 years, Estée Lauder has been pioneering research into night skin science, most recently focusing on the impact that poor sleep has on skin,” added Jennifer Palmer, senior vice president, global innovation development & science leadership, Estée Lauder. 

“By partnering with Dr. Walker, a renowned global sleep expert, we are able to deepen this understanding to inform how we engage, educate and inspire our consumers.”

Vivienne Westwood will showcase a collection created with the natural hand-woven Indian silks and Khadi cottons and wool sourced from across India provided by Khadi India.

“Vivienne Westwood has long championed craftsmanship and heritage, using artisanal fabrics within their collections. Through working with and promoting artisans and small heritage production, Vivienne Westwood is proud to promote more environmentally sustainable forms of fabric production and support traditional skilled jobs and the communities around them,” said a statement from the brand.

The fabrics used for the collection have been sourced from various regions of India and created by Indian artisans using traditional techniques.
