The Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens in Sanford is recycling your used electronics and giving away discounted zoo tickets in return.
“To say thank you for helping the environment, guests who bring accepted electronic items for recycling will receive 25% off up to four Zoo admission tickets, valid the same day as their e-waste drop-off,” the zoo said in a recent press release.
The recycling program and matching ticket deal runs Jan. 2-4 at the zoo, located at 3755 W. Seminole Blvd.
People can bring their old computers, laptops, printers, iPads, cellphones, video game consoles, stereo equipment and other items on the zoo’s list of permitted items.
Some items are not accepted, such as TVs, light bulbs, unsealed batteries and soft-pack lithium-ion batteries.
The zoo will put out specially marked recycling bins as it tries to help keep these electronics from taking up space at landfills.
“After the holidays, many people find themselves with old electronics that are no longer being used,” said Bob Chabot, the Chief Operating Officer at the Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens. “This partnership with Urban E Recycling gives our community a safe, sustainable way to recycle those items, while also giving guests an added incentive to enjoy a day at the Zoo.”
The zoo is also still offering its nighttime special ticketed event to celebrate the holidays.
The Asian Lantern Festival runs on select nights through Jan. 18, as it’s one of the few Christmas holiday events that goes past the New Year.
“Step into a world of light and color like you’ve never seen before. Wander the three-quarter-mile pathway filled with all-new, handcrafted lantern scenes, each glowing with thousands of LED lights,” the zoo says on its website. “Ocean-inspired landscapes meet mythical creatures, from graceful ice dragons and unicorns to a new twist on our beloved showcase dragon.”
