Republican George Moraitis raised more than $106,000 in the third quarter to unseat Democratic U.S. Rep. Jared Moskowitz.
That means Moraitis now boasts more than $485,000 in war chest since launching his campaign in Florida’s 23rd Congressional District in March.
“This momentum reflects the strong support our campaign is earning across South Florida,” Moraitis said. “Voters are ready for a conservative leader who will fight for taxpayers, protect our freedoms and stand up to the big-government pushed by D.C. Democrats. I’m deeply grateful for the confidence and support of so many friends and neighbors who share our vision for a stronger, more prosperous America.”
Moraitis also announced a number endorsements. That includes two from sitting members of Congress, including U.S. Rep. Greg Steube, a Sarasota Republican. He also landed support from U.S. Jake Ellzey, a Texas Republican.
Notably, Moskowitz has been listed as one of two Florida targets of the National Republican Congressional Committee, and that was before the Florida Legislature made moves toward a mid-decade redistricting of Florida’s congressional lines. While no draft maps have been produced by the Legislature, there is wide speculation Moskowitz’s district will be reshaped to a more Republican-friendly jurisdiction.
But Moraitis also has to worry about a Republican Primary.
His overall fundraising has outpaced Joe Kaufman, who lost to Moskowitz in 2022. Kaufman did raise almost $133,000 in the third quarter but his total haul this election cycle sits just north of $300,000.
The Republican challenger who has reported the most fundraising has been Raven Harrison. She has not filed her third quarter report yet but as of the of June, she reported almost $559,000. The majority of that came from a candidate loan of $542,000, while Moraitis has only reported $110,000 in loans and Kaufman hasn’t reported any.
Moraitis said his biography is best to put in front of voters. In addition to his experience in elected office, he also served in the Navy.
“As someone who has served both in uniform and in public office, I know that leadership means putting service before self,” Moraitis said. “The people of Broward and Palm Beach Counties deserve a representative who will listen, lead with integrity, and work tirelessly to get results.”
