The Florida Sheriffs Association (FSA) has installed its leadership team for the next year.
The law enforcement group has elected its board of directors for 2026-2027 and Marion County Sheriff Billy Woods is the new President of the FSA. He’s a 36-year law enforcement professional and said he’s ready to work with the FSA staff and board of directors.
“Being chosen to lead the Florida Sheriffs Association is something I do not take lightly. It is a role I hold with great honor. At its heart, leadership means putting others first, and I am wholeheartedly dedicated to serving my fellow sheriffs and the citizens of this state with principle and resolve,” Woods said.
“I look forward to partnering with our Board of Directors and the outstanding FSA staff to move the Association’s work forward and to make certain the Office of Sheriff remains the foundation upon which public safety in Florida is built for generations ahead.”
Woods is replacing immediate Past President Dennis Lemma, Seminole County Sheriff.
Other board appointments for the FSA include Vice President Rick Staly, Flagler County Sheriff; Secretary Gator Deloach, Putnam County Sheriff; Treasurer A.J. Smith, Franklin County Sheriff; Chair Eric Flowers, Indian River County Sheriff; and Vice Chair Michelle Cook, Clay County Sheriff.
“With Sheriff Billy Woods leading the Florida Sheriffs Association as president, we are well positioned to advance our strategic priorities and continue strengthening the Office of Sheriff in partnership with all 67 of Florida’s sheriffs,” said FSA Executive Director Matt Dunagan. “Together, we will remain focused on fulfilling the Association’s critical mission through education, training and legislative advocacy.”
The FSA represents all 67 counties and their law enforcement agencies, but it’s also supported by about 3,000 business leaders and another 100,000 residents from across the state. The organization was founded as a law enforcement advocacy group in 1893. The organization also supports Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranches, a program designed to instill interest in law enforcement careers among kids.
