The Republican Party of Florida is criticizing Democrats and others who oppose President Donald Trump’s decision to engage in military strikes against Iran.
The Florida Republican Party says the U.S. needs unity in a time of conflict.
“Shamefully, Florida Democrats have chosen to side with partisan politics over American security. Congressman Maxwell Frost and Florida Democrat Party (FDP) Chair Nikki Fried have publicly opposed the strike, attempting to undermine the Commander-in-Chief at a critical moment for our national security,” the Florida GOP statement said.
Fried in particular acknowledged that the current Iranian regime has been a threat to human rights for the world and its own citizens. But she criticized Trump’s decision to launch attacks on Iran.
“Without any Congressional oversight or approval, Trump’s reckless actions have directly violated our Constitution and will lead to the deaths of U.S. soldiers and civilians abroad. Trump’s decisions have made our world less stable and America less safe for decades to come,” Fried said in an FDP statement.
Frost, a Central Florida Congressman, said on his X account that Trump’s decisions are only destabilizing the Middle East.
“We know what comes next: instability, innocent death, our troops risking their lives, and chaos. These regime-change wars do not work. We can support the people of Iran without bombing them,” Frost said.
Republican Party of Florida Chair Evan Power said now is not the time for internal division in the U.S.
“Florida Republicans stand firmly with our Commander-in-Chief and the brave men and women of our Armed Forces. This is about American safety and security, not partisan games. Peace comes through strength, and we will never apologize for defending our nation,” Power said.
Israel and the United States pounded Iran on Monday in a campaign that Trump said would likely take several weeks. Tehran and its allies hit back against Israel, Gulf states and targets critical to the world’s energy production.
