Gas is cheapest in the Crestview-Fort Walton Beach area and Pensacola, and priciest in Palm Beach County.

Gas prices in Florida keep rising and falling, repeating a pattern of shooting up early in the week before settling lower by the end, according to AAA — The Auto Club Group.

Over the past week, the state average jumped 18 cents per gallon. Then it declined by 9 cents by Sunday to $3.04 per gallon. That’s 8 cents more than last week, but 10 cents less than last month and 7 cents cheaper than a year ago.

Since early September 2024, AAA said, Florida’s average gas price has oscillated between a per-gallon price of $2.92 and $3.23. The pattern usually involves a gradual decline over 10 days, followed by a sharp rebound to previous levels.

“Since the fuel market has been stable, retailers are constantly adjusting prices to attract customers,” AAA spokesperson Mark Jenkins said.

“But once those prices fall below a profitable margin, stations raise them again, and the cycle repeats.”

Oil prices and gasoline futures are on the downswing. The U.S. price of crude declined 7% last week from a per-barrel price of $65.72 to $60.88. Meanwhile, gas futures fell 18 cents from the week prior.

The most affordable metropolitan markets in Florida for gas-dependent motorists are the Crestview-Fort Walton Beach area and Pensacola, where the price Sunday was $2.80 per barrel, followed by Panama City ($2.85).

The most expensive are West Palm Beach-Boca Raton ($3.22), Naples ($3.12) and Gainesville ($3.10).
