Florida firefighters throw support to Ashley Moody for Senate

The state’s largest firefighter union previously backed the Republican’s re-election as Florida Attorney General.

Florida’s firefighters are rushing to U.S. Sen. Ashley Moody’s aid.

The Florida Professional Firefighters (FPF) union has endorsed the Plant City Republican as she stands for election in November.

“Senator Ashley Moody has been a steadfast supporter of Florida’s firefighters and paramedics throughout her career in public service,” said FPF President Wayne ‘Bernie’ Bernoska.

“From her time as Florida Attorney General to her service in the United States Senate, she has consistently demonstrated a commitment to public safety and to the men and women who answer the call every day. We are proud to endorse her for this role and look forward to continuing our work together on behalf of Florida’s fire rescue and their families.”

The firefighters’ association previously supported Moody when she successfully ran for re-election as Florida Attorney General in 2022. Gov. Ron DeSantis appointed Moody to a vacancy in the U.S. Senate last year, and she will stand for election in November.

Moody welcomed the support of the state’s most prominent firefighters’ union, saying she will always stand by first responders protecting the public.

“Our firefighters run toward danger so the rest of us can run to safety, and for over 80 years, the Florida Professional Firefighters organization has represented that brotherhood with distinction. To have their trust is a recognition from a family I am proud to be part of,” Moody said.

“The men and women who risk their lives to protect others are the real heroes in our communities and they deserve a Senator who fights just as hard for them. I am honored to have their support and be their voice in Washington.”

The organization noted Moody’s work in Washington, including introduction of the Homes for Every Local Protector, Educator, and Responder (HELPER) Act (S 978). The legislation would establish a Federal Housing Administration program to provide mortgage assistance to first responders, including firefighters, and for teachers.
