Clerks of Courts are trying to provide more awareness of their functions during National County Government Month.
Clerks are often considered by many in government to be the backbone of civil functions and services and those elected leaders. During April, Clerk’s Offices will be leading the way in all 67 Florida counties to showcase their services and enhance interaction with the public.
“National County Government Month is an opportunity to shine a light on the essential work performed every day in Clerk and Comptroller offices statewide,” said 2025-26 Florida Clerks and Comptrollers President and Hernando County Clerk of the Circuit Court and Comptroller Doug Chorvat Jr.
“Clerks are uniquely positioned to serve as both record keepers and financial watchdogs. Our work ensures that government remains open, accountable and responsive to the needs of Floridians.”
The National Association of Counties (NACo) has been marking National County Government Month since 1991 to recognize the work of government employees. NACo is also using the month to provide advisories on how to develop effective news releases, educational resources, public relations programs and approaches designed to enhance civic engagement.
An estimated 3.6 million people are employed in public services in counties across the U.S., according to NACo.
Clerks and Comptrollers are often in the background when it comes to government functions. But without them, courts wouldn’t function, government finances could be in disarray and government services could break down, Chorvat said.
The Florida Clerks and Comptrollers organization is advising residents in the Sunshine State to visit Clerks’ websites to learn more about their work.
