Florida AFL-CIO backs Amanda Green for CD 2

Democrat Amanda Green has secured the backing of the Florida AFL-CIO as she campaigns in a competitive race for Florida’s 2nd Congressional District, a seat now open and drawing a crowded field.

The endorsement became official at the AFL-CIO’s annual COPE Endorsing Convention in Orlando, after a recommendation from the Northwest Florida Federation of Labor.

“The Northwest Florida Federation of Labor and Florida AFL-CIO are happy to endorse Amanda Green for Congressional District 2. She has a vision to build the strength of workers and family farmers who are being crushed under the boot of high prices driven by corporate elites,” a statement from the organization reads.

“Amanda is committed to delivering on the issues that matter most to working families: lowering prices, access to food, higher wages, preserving and expanding social security, and universal, free-at-the-point-of-service healthcare. We look forward to working with her in Congress to win big for working families.”

Green, who has already picked up endorsements from former U.S. Rep. Allen Boyd and Leon County Sheriff Walt McNeil, called the AFL-CIO’s support an honor.

“North Florida was built by hard-working people who deserve leaders willing to fight for fair wages, affordable healthcare, safe workplaces, and an economy that works for everyone, not just those at the top. This endorsement reflects our shared belief that government should be focused on helping people build better lives,” she said.

Florida’s 2nd Congressional District covers a broad swath of North Florida and the Panhandle. The seat is currently held by Republican U.S. Rep. Neal Dunn, who is stepping aside after announcing he will not seek another term.

The district leans heavily Republican. In the 2024 presidential race, more than 59% of voters in CD 2 supported Donald Trump, while just 40% backed Democrat Kamala Harris. This year’s contest has drawn a dozen candidates to the ballot, including several prominent Republicans.
