After sitting just outside the Top 100 in last year’s U.S. News & World Report ranking, Florida Atlantic University has broken that barrier in the outlet’s latest list of top public universities.
U.S. News & World Report ranked FAU No. 100 in its just-released 2026 rankings. FAU tied for the spot with California State University-Fresno, the University of Arkansas and the University of Idaho.
FAU moved up three spots in this year’s list. The movement comes months after FAU selected former House Majority Leader Adam Hasner as its new President.
“Florida Atlantic’s ascent into the U.S. News Top 100 Public Schools ranking is a milestone that reflects the extraordinary momentum and impact our university has built over the years, defined by excellence, innovation and opportunity,” Hasner said in a Tuesday statement celebrating the ranking.
“I am proud to celebrate this achievement with our students, alumni, donors, faculty, staff and community, whose hard work and dedication have propelled our rise as a national leader in higher education. With this bold trajectory, Florida Atlantic will continue to accelerate, transforming lives through student success, innovative research and social mobility.”
The overall public universities ranking wasn’t the only area FAU shined. U.S. News & World Report also moved FAU up two spots to No. 30 in its “Social Mobility” metric. That tally looks at graduation rates for first-generation college and university students and those who receive Pell Grants. Both public and private universities are listed in that ranking.
FAU also ranked 25th in the U.S. for Pell Grant Graduation Performance. FAU also jumped six spots in the U.S. News & World Report rankings for Top National Schools, to No. 183.
Among students admitted to FAU, SAT scores range from 1040 to 1200, while ACT scores run from 21 to 26, ranges between the 25th and 75th percentile. Admitted students’ average high school GPA is 3.8.
In-state tuition at FAU is just under $6,100, making it one of the least expensive options for Florida residents. Out-of-state tuition and fees run just under $21,700. FAU ranked No. 159 on the U.S. News & World Report list for Best Value Schools.
