Evan Power leads GOP response to Nikki Fried in Clay County

Counterprogramming a speech in Orange Park by the Chair of the Florida Democratic Party, Florida GOP Chair Evan Power spoke to the important role that women have in the Republican Party of Florida.

Power said it was “ironic” that Nikki Fried was “talking about the empowerment of women” given that the Democratic Chair “can’t define what a woman is” and that the party “wants to put men in women’s restrooms.”

Local officials offered support.

Clay County School Board Chair Erin Skipper said “women’s empowerment” is the “heartbeat of every mother raising daughters to lead” while “trying to balance faith, family, and career” while “doing the right thing because it’s right, not because it’s easy.”

Fried’s speech, she said, was especially egregious since it was made in “ruby-red Clay County” and the speech organizers are also “part of the problem.”

“Not here. Not Clay County,” Skipper said.

County Commissioner Alexandra Compere followed Skipper, saying that Clay County proves “women’s empowerment” isn’t about “conformity.”

Rather, it’s about “confidence,” as proven by women making up a majority of the County Commission, and the fact that “strong, capable women” constitute a majority of constitutional officers.

“Women are no longer the exception,” Compere said. “We’re the rule.”
