The Miami Dolphins are parting ways with star receiver Tyreek Hill, ending the All Pro’s four year run in Miami. A person familiar with the decision told the Associated Press that the move is part of a significant roster reset taking place on Monday.
Hill, who turns 31 on March 1, is recovering from a season ending knee injury suffered against the New York Jets on September 29. The injury required surgery to repair major damage to his left knee, including a torn anterior cruciate ligament.
The decision to release Hill is one of several major cuts the Dolphins made Monday morning. According to the person familiar with the moves, Miami will also release two time Pro Bowl pass rusher Bradley Chubb and cut offensive lineman James Daniels and receiver Nick Westbrook Ikhine.
Tyreek Hill’s Miami Tenure Comes to an End
The Dolphins acquired Hill in a blockbuster trade with Kansas City before the 2022 season. Miami then signed him to a four year, 120 million dollar extension that made him the highest paid receiver in the league at the time.
Hill’s contract runs through 2026 and would have counted roughly 51 million dollars against Miami’s salary cap this season. The size of the cap hit made his future a major offseason storyline, especially as the Dolphins faced difficult financial decisions across the roster.
Injury and Cap Pressure Drive the Decision
Hill’s knee injury and the long recovery timeline added another layer to Miami’s offseason challenges. With the Dolphins needing to clear significant cap space, the combination of his contract size and injury status made the decision unavoidable.

The release of Bradley Chubb, along with the departures of James Daniels and Nick Westbrook Ikhine, underscores the scale of Miami’s cap driven overhaul. Chubb, a two time Pro Bowler, was one of the team’s highest paid defensive players.
