The U.S. Department of Justice released at least part of the Jeffrey Epstein Files Friday … following a congressional vote last month compelling the agency to make all evidence related to the investigation of the disgraced financier and convicted pedophile.

TMZ is analyzing the information … the Associated Press reports the material is expected to include FBI reports, transcripts of witness interviews, as well as video and photographic evidence related to the yearslong investigation. Victims’ names will be redacted.

Friday marked the DOJ’s deadline to the 30-day directive from Congress to release the files. Earlier today, Deputy AG Todd Blanche said the DOJ would not be able to release the full trove today, promising more to be released in the coming months.

Democrats on the House Oversight Committee have been doing their own releasing … dropping exhibits given to the committee from the Epstein estate itself over the last several weeks.

Jeffrey Epstein was convicted in 2008 on state charges in Florida of soliciting the prostitution of a minor in a plea deal and served a year in prison. In 2019, he was arrested on federal charges of sex trafficking of minors and conspiracy to commit sex trafficking of minors. While awaiting trial in New York City, he killed himself in his cell.

Directly after the federal government shutdown ended last month, the House of Representatives and the Senate voted to force the DOJ to release all materials in the case to the public

Earlier this year, U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi promised the release of the files … gathering a select group of conservative activists at the White House, who received binders of information — they determined all the info contained in those folders was already publicly known.

Shortly afterward, Bondi and FBI Director Kash Patel formally closed the case, telling the public there was nothing left to investigate, and no further materials would be released … provoking an angry reaction from across the political spectrum. Deputy FBI Director Dan Bongino reportedly threatened to quit over the matter at the time … he’s since announced he’s leaving the agency next month.

Donald Trump, Bill Clinton and Bill Gates are among many high-profile politicians, entertainers, business titans and academics known to have been close associates of Epstein. Trump downplayed the importance of releasing the files this year — despite making campaign promises to open up the investigation — even saying he didn’t want support from anyone who was demanding more about the case.

What started out as alleged shoplifting turned into attempted murder when an Ohio man pulled a gun on a police officer inside a Walmart Thursday … and the whole thing was caught on tape.

Watch this insane video … 21-year-old Shane Newman appears anxious, chewing on his gloved fingers while sitting inside Walmart’s loss prevention office. You can see him sneakily turn his back to the camera, and when he turns back around … he produces a gun.

While aiming the weapon at an officer off-camera, you can hear what appears to be the click of Newman pulling the trigger, but the gun never goes off.

Then, all hell breaks loose. The store’s loss prevention specialist dives on Newman, knocking the gun out of his hands, before the officer rushes in with a crushing knee to Newman’s midsection. Newman is then quickly wrestled to the ground.

According to local outlet WOIO-TV, Newman was charged with attempted murder, felonious assault on a police officer, robbery, drug possession and having a weapon under disability.

A woman Newman was apprehended with — 23-year-old Katerina Jeffrey — was reportedly charged with complicity to commit a robbery.

19 News reports Newman was not allowed to own or have a firearm due to a previous felony conviction. They also report he was in possession of 50 blue pills identified as Molly — a.k.a. MDMA.

Newman was reportedly taken to Stark County Jail in Canton, Ohio.

Nick Reiner was an unsolvable dilemma for his parents … so says a substance abuse treatment expert.

Nick Mathews — the founder and CEO of Southern California-based treatment center Stillwater Behavioral Health — joined us on “TMZ Live,” and we asked him about Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner‘s son, who is charged with their murders.

For Mathews, Nick presented a treatment provider’s worst nightmare … he was diagnosed with schizophrenia, but had been in and out of rehab for years and struggled with substance abuse.

Just listen to Mathews explain all the challenges Nick would present for the rehab centers and doctors tasked with treating him … there’s no quick, easy fix or even a cut-and-dry solution here.

Plus, Nick is an adult … and Rob and Michele couldn’t make him stay in rehab centers long enough to get the treatment he clearly needed, Mathews says.

As Mathews explains, there was a perfect storm brewing here … and now Rob and Michele are dead, and their son sounds like he’s planning to plead not guilty by reason of insanity.
