We are only months away from the World Cup kicking off in North America, with the United States hosting 78 of the 104 matches … and USMNT member Diego Luna is well aware of the stakes … telling TMZ Sports it’s one of the biggest years for the sport stateside!!
We chatted with Luna out at LAX … and he described the World Cup in the U.S. as a “once in a lifetime opportunity for us.”
“I think for the country itself, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” Luna said. “The soccer is built here so much and to now have the World Cup come here. I think this is the biggest opportunity to kind of take that big step into making soccer a super popular sport here.”
It’s not just the World Cup … as in a little over two years time — Los Angeles is set to host the 2028 Olympics.
So, what are his thoughts on the team’s talent heading into such a pivotal few years?
“I think we have a lot of different guys, a lot of different attributes that guys bring to the team, which is very different,” Luna said. “This isn’t your original U.S. Soccer Team.
“We got a lot of guys that bring different things to the team, different quality of players, and I think all together with the right mindset, it leads to a really good team and performances like we just had.”

Doug Gottlieb went full Bobby Knight Thursday night after his University of Wisconsin-Green Bay squad blew an 11-point lead in the fourth quarter … tossing a chair as he made his way to the locker room.
Cameras in the arena caught the second-year head coach losing his cool in reaction to Robert Morris erasing a double-digit Phoenix lead in the final three minutes of play with a game-winning layup with 2.4 left on the clock.

Gottlieb disappeared behind the bleachers as he left … only for a chair to come flying into view and smack against the wall.
“I’m encouraged by our effort and our defense and how we executed,” Gottlieb said following the L. “That was just embarrassing how we lost the game.”

Folks on social couldn’t help but think about the late legend after watching Gottlieb’s antics.
While the former Indiana men’s basketball coach pulled his stunt during the middle of a game against Purdue in 1985, people couldn’t help but compare the two throws!
The university will have a few extra days to find a new chair … as the team returns to action this Sunday against the Wright State Raiders.

Charlie Sheen‘s ex-wife Brooke Mueller is banging down his door, ready to collect on the huge bill — about $15 million — she claims he owes her for unpaid child support.
Brooke informed an L.A. County judge she wants Charlie to cough up the money ASAP. In docs filed Thursday, and obtained by TMZ, she says the ex “Two and a Half Men” star owes her $8,967,600 in child support plus another $6,418,643 in accrued interest.
And, the kicker … mama wants it paid in full in 30 days!
Brooke explains Charlie was ordered to pay her $55,000 per month in child support in April 2010, and there were no issues until July 2011 … when he started sending either partial payments or failed to make any payments at all. So, she wants the court to make him pay what she’s rightfully owed, plus $25,000 in attorney fees and costs.
Charlie and Brooke were married between 2008 and 2011 and share 16-year-old twin sons.
TMZ has reached out to Charlie’s attorney for comment … so far, no word back.
Brooke recently opened up about her home life as she struggles with drug addiction, telling People in March the situation is “unfair” for her kids and that they understand “Mommy is going to relapse again one day.”

Netflix is going to buy Warner Bros. … and they are dropping an insane amount of cash in a move that most believe will reshape the entertainment industry.
News broke Friday morning that Netflix agreed to purchase Warner Bros Discovery’s TV, film studios and streaming division for $82.7 billion — an equity value of $72 billion — in a freaking cash and stock deal!
As you know … WB had a for sale sign out for a few weeks … and a bidding war was underway, which included Paramount Skydance, along with the winner, Netflix.
Basically, Netflix will own “Game of Thrones”, Superman, Batman and Harry Potter … among a ton of other classic IP from the famed Hollywood studio.
