Hollywood Commissioner Caryl Shuman has now amassed more than a quarter of a million dollars to run for the Broward County Commission.
The construction lawyer, who jumped into the District 6 race last year and established herself as an early front-runner, reported upward of $219,000 in donations to her official campaign account. Additionally, she has raised more than $32,000 for a Caryl Shuham for Broward PAC that she also controls.
“These numbers show that residents across Broward support our vision for smarter growth, safer neighborhoods, and responsive local leadership,” Shuman said. “I’m honored by that trust and will continue to represent our residents with integrity and transparency.”
The nearly $252,000 raised between her official account and her political committee is 10 times the total $25,000 raised by Dania Beach City Commissioner A.J. Ryan. Eugen Bold, a former Director of Public Policy for Broward County Commissioner Tim Ryan, hasn’t released quarterly figures, but through June had raised about $35,000. At that point, Traci Lynn Callari had only raised a little more than $4,400, and Jeffrey Jones had reported no fundraising to date.
Only Democrats have filed so far for the District 6 seat, but more candidates have filed for that race than for any other contest managed by the Broward County Supervisor of Elections office. And to date, Shuman has raised more for the race than any candidate has for any Broward County office.
Shuman has been endorsed by local leaders, including sitting Broward County Mayor Beam Furr. She is running to succeed Furr in the District 6 post.
“These endorsements are meaningful. They reflect years of public service and a shared commitment to Broward’s future,” Shuham said. “Having these respected voices stand with me strengthens our ability to deliver for all of Broward County.”
Shuman is in her second term on the Hollywood City Commission and boasts a degree in civil engineering.
