Hollywood Commissioner Caryl Shuham is adding a bundle of political support to her campaign for Broward County Commission, rolling out 23 new endorsements in the open District 6 race.
The backing comes from a mix of state and local Democrats, with Sen. Shevrin Jones at the top of the list.
“I’m proud to endorse Caryl Shuham because she understands what it means to lead with integrity and put people first,” said Jones, who will take over as Senate Democratic Leader in 2028.
“At a time when our communities are demanding leadership that actually lowers costs and brings people together, Caryl is the kind of leader who will step up and deliver. She brings the experience, the compassion, and the determination we need to move Broward forward.”
Broward County Mayor Mark Bogen, State Attorney Harold Pryor, Sunrise Mayor Mike Ryan, West Park Mayor Felicia Brunson, and Pembroke Pines Mayor Angelo Castillo are also in Shuham’s corner.
Other backers include Oakland Park Commissioners Fitz Budhoo and Letitia Newbold, Hallandale Beach Commissioner Mike Butler, Wilton Manors Commissioner Don D’Arminio, Lauderhill Commissioner Melissa P. Dunn, Pembroke Pines Commissioner Maria Rodriguez and Coconut Creek Commissioner Joshua Rydell.
Broward County School Board members Debbi Hixon, Sarah Leonardi and Rebecca Thompson are also endorsing Shuham. Several former elected officials are also throwing their support behind Shuham, including former Rep. Elaine Schwartz, former Cooper City Mayor Debby Eisinger, former Hallandale Beach Vice Mayor Sabrina Javellana, former West Park Vice Mayor Brian Johnson, and former Hollywood Commissioners Linda Hill Anderson, Dick Blattner and Debra Case.
They add to an already lengthy roster of supporters that includes Broward Commissioner Nan Rich, Fort Lauderdale Mayor Dean Trantalis, Fort Lauderdale Commissioner Ben Sorensen and former Sen. Eleanor Sobel.
“I’m incredibly honored to have the support of so many respected leaders from across Broward County,” Shuham said.
“These are people who have dedicated their lives to public service and delivering for our communities. Their support means a great deal because they know what it takes to lead — and they understand the urgency of this moment. Families are being squeezed and people are tired of politics that divide instead of deliver. I’m running to bring people together and committed to generating results for Broward County”
District 6 covers the southeast portion of the county, stretching across parts of Dania Beach, Davie, Fort Lauderdale, Hallandale Beach, Hollywood, Pembroke Park and West Park. Shuham is running to succeed Commissioner Beam Furr, who has also endorsed her bid.
Shuham, a Democrat, is facing three other Democratic candidates in the contest: Eugen Bold, Jeffery Jones, and A.J. Ryan.
But Shuham is dominating the field in terms of fundraising. Through the end of 2025, Shuham raised nearly $183,000 and added a $50,000 candidate loan on top of that. Bold was second in the field, raising nearly $47,000, plus another $11,000 loan. Ryan raised just over $23,000 and chipped in a $2,500 loan as well. Jones had added only $100.
The Primary will take place Aug. 18.
