Carlos Gimenez expects Cuban regime change soon

U.S. Rep. Carlos Gimenez says it’s only a matter of time before the government in Havana gives way, citing internal instability as the catalyst.

“Yeah, we’ve heard of massive demonstrations in Cuba last night,” the Miami-Dade Republican said on Saturday’s “Fox and Friends Weekend.”

The comments come as President Donald Trump eyes a “friendly takeover” of the island, with Justice Department officials mulling indictments similar to those that led to the removal of Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro.

“They don’t have any power. They don’t have any lights, they don’t have any food, they don’t have any medicine. And yeah, that regime is about to fall under its own weight. It’s a failed regime. It destroyed the island. It denies basic rights to its own people, and so now that there’s a renewed emphasis and focus on Cuba, who, again, is a threat to our national security, I’m very happy with what the President is doing, refocusing on Cuba, acknowledging it is a national security threat, and putting maximum pressure to topple that regime. We need that regime to go.”
