Cabinet closes in on locating Donald Trump library in Miami-Dade

Gov. DeSantis announced the proposal before next week’s Cabinet meeting.

Clarity is emerging on where Florida’s first presidential library will be placed.

Gov. Ron DeSantis will propose an item to the Florida Cabinet to convey a 2.63-acre parcel in Miami-Dade County adjacent to the Freedom Tower at Miami-Dade College for the Donald J. Trump Presidential Library.

Like virtually all Republicans in the state, DeSantis has been an active proponent of Donald Trump’s library. And this proposal, to be advanced at next week’s Internal Improvement Trust Fund Board of Trustees meeting, will end all mystery about where the structure will go.

“President Trump has achieved results for the American people and made a lasting impact on our nation’s history,” DeSantis said. “No state has better delivered the President’s agenda than the Free State of Florida, and we would be honored to house his presidential library here in his home state.”

The Legislature prioritized the Trump Library during the 2025 Session.

Senate President Pro Tempore Jason Brodeur and Rep. Alex Andrade carried legislation reserving to the state government “all regulatory authority over the establishment, maintenance, activities, and operations of presidential libraries.”

Cabinet members, including Attorney General James Uthmeier, are already promising to support the Governor’s proposal to locate the library at the “Ellis Island of the South.”

“Surviving two assassination attempts, securing the border, and rebuilding our nation’s military are just a few stories this great library will tell,” Uthmeier said, crediting Trump with the “greatest comeback story in political history” and saying the library will tell that story.

Like all modern presidential libraries, this one will abide by the definition adopted by Congress in 1986, during Ronald Reagan’s presidency, which encompasses “research facilities and museum facilities.” It enshrines them as part of the National Archives system.
