Byron Donalds to get out the vote in Tarpon Springs, with latest ‘Defending the Florida Dream’ tour stop
Byron Donalds will be on hand in Tarpon Springs this weekend, with a planned stop as part of his “Defending the Florida Dream” tour.
Team Donalds is hosting a get-out-the-vote rally at the St. Petersburg College Tarpon Springs campus, located at 600 East Klosterman Road in the Chris Sprowls Workforce Innovation Hub, on Saturday. Those who would like to attend should register for the event on Eventbrite.
Doors open at 8:15 a.m., and the program starts at 9 a.m. State Rep. Adam Anderson will be on hand as a special guest and speaker.
Following the Pinellas County rally, Donalds will head to Central Florida, where he’ll get out the vote at Pilars Loft, located at 146 W. Plant Street in Winter Garden, at 2 p.m.
Donalds kicked off the “Defending the Florida Dream” tour in April. The statewide tour is designed to tackle the issues that matter most to Floridians, according to Donalds’ campaign. Donalds has also used events to offer “a roadmap for protecting the Florida Dream and making it attainable for the next generation.”
Previous events have addressed other pocketbook issues, such as insurance premiums, property taxes and hidden government fees that continue to “squeeze” household budgets. Donalds has also addressed public safety, education and expanding economic opportunities in the state.
Donalds is far and away the front-runner for the GOP Primary next week, with a recent poll finding him 31 percentage points ahead of even his closest challenger. A James Madison Institute survey earlier this month found Donalds with 49% support, with current Lt. Gov. Jay Collins trailing at just 18% support. Former Florida House Speaker Paul Renner is even further back, with just 8% support.
The winner of the GOP Primary will likely face former U.S. Rep. David Jolly in November. Jolly, a Republican-turned-Democrat, is expected to easily win the Democratic Primary. The James Madison Institute poll found Donalds leading Jolly in a hypothetical General Election matchup 40% to 36% among registered voters.
