Byron Donalds to announce industry-focused workforce initiative

Gubernatorial candidate Byron Donalds will announce a vision for an industry-driven workforce initiative.

The Naples Republican will unveil the LaunchPad initiative during a campaign stop in Coconut Creek. He will recommend concrete steps to reduce bureaucracy, expand apprenticeships and connect employees with high-wage opportunities that don’t require a college degree.

“Florida students deserve a direct path to a high-paying job, not a maze of paperwork and bureaucracy that slows them down,” Donalds said. “LaunchPad is about training at the speed of business, connecting students to real opportunities, and making sure every young Floridian has the chance to earn, learn, and succeed without being buried in student debt.”

The announcement of Donalds’ policy initiative comes as part of his “Defending the Florida Dream” tour.

Launched last week, he has held a series of events centered around an affordability agenda. He kicked the tour off with an event in The Villages focused on the rising cost of health care before heading to Melbourne for a roundtable on public safety.

Through the LaunchPad initiative, Donalds hopes to address an employment challenge in Florida head-on with a coordinated, statewide effort to align high schools, public colleges and employers with work-based learning programs designed around industry needs.

The move comes as Florida’s unemployment rate climbs to 4.5%, higher than the nation as a whole.

Yet, Donalds’ campaign noted, major industries in Florida still have growing demand for skilled workers, and in high-wage sectors like aerospace, construction, defense and manufacturing.

“LaunchPad will serve as a direct bridge between students and these opportunities, ensuring training programs are aligned with real job openings, not outdated government frameworks,” the campaign announced.

The goal is to make Florida the national lead in workforce readiness and technical education soon. It could also serve as an economic development tool to recruit new employers to the state and keep the state competitive.
