Floridians are being pilloried by pocketbook concerns, but gubernatorial candidate Byron Donalds says they are temporary.
Once the Strait of Hormuz opens up, the Congressman from Naples expects that “gas prices will come down because global oil prices will come down.”
Donalds believes that a decline in fuel costs will lead to better “polling numbers” not just for President Donald Trump, whose popularity numbers have sagged as inflation becomes a primary concern, but also for the Republican agenda writ large.
“The only slight uptick we’ve seen in inflation is because of gasoline prices, which are elevated because of oil prices, because the Iranians are weaponizing the Strait of Hormuz against everybody’s economy., and against every world economy, including ours,” Donalds said on Newsmax.
Higher costs, he said, come down to “direct conflict because you have a terrorist regime that wants a nuclear weapon.”
“I think when that whole conflict comes to a close, we’ll see those oil prices come down, and you’ll see movement in those polling numbers about the American economy and the outlook going forward,” he predicted.
Donalds also spoke out against the House vote on a war powers resolution pushing back against the President abetted by four Republicans who joined Democrats in a call to end hostilities.
“Why would you do that? It would be something very different if we had troops on the ground, and we were engaged in active kinetic warfare. We are not right now,” Donalds said.
“There is a tentative ceasefire in place. They are at the negotiating table. So, quite frankly, for members to vote for this, the four Republicans, but then also all the Democrats, just to get a political win doesn’t make any sense at all. It doesn’t help the negotiations. It doesn’t improve the leverage of the United States in those negotiations. In my view, it undermines us.”
