Buddy Dyer says Bale Dalton is the best Democrat to take on Cory Mills

Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer just threw his support to Democrat Bale Dalton as Dalton runs in Florida’s 7th Congressional District.

Dyer, Orlando’s longest-serving Mayor, endorsed the former NASA Chief of Staff as he looks to unseat GOP U.S. Rep. Cory Mills.

In a statement announcing his support, Dyer focused on Dalton’s military biography.

“As a Navy combat veteran, he has lived a life of service — putting duty, country, and community above politics,” Dyer said.

“In a time when Washington is defined by gridlock and extremes, Bale stands out as someone who listens first, seeks practical solutions, and is willing to work with anyone if it means improving the lives of the people he serves. Bale understands the challenges facing Florida families because he’s lived them: from the rising cost of living, supporting our veterans and protecting our communities.”

Dyer followed former U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson in backing Dalton. Dalton previously worked for Nelson both in his Senate Office and later when the longtime official headed NASA.

Dalton embraced Dyer’s support.

“Mayor Dyer knows what it means to bring community values and practical solutions to the problems facing Central Floridians — especially fighting to lower costs and make life more affordable for our working families,” Dalton said. “I’m honored to have Mayor Dyer’s support for my campaign.”

Importantly, Dalton faces a Democratic Primary before he can take on Mills. The top fundraiser in the race the last two quarters was Noah Widmann, who responded to Dalton’s entry in the race by issuing a fresh round of local endorsements.

Jennifer Adams, who challenged Mills in 2024, is also running for the Democratic nomination, as is Navy veteran Marialana Kinter.

Dyer said Dalton was the candidate who could bring the best argument for Democrats to the race.

“We need leaders in Washington who use common sense,” Dyer said. “Bale has proven throughout his life that he does exactly that. I’m honored to support him, and I encourage others who want a steady, principled voice in Congress to join me.”

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has listed Mills among its Republican targets this year.
