Buccaneers stun Dallas in primetime

Rookie Quarterback Delivers Breakthrough Primetime Performance

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers secured their first win of the season in Dallas, fueled by a poised and efficient outing from rookie quarterback Jalon Daniels. In just his second career start, Daniels completed 19 of 25 passes for 189 yards and one touchdown, finishing with a 110.2 passer rating and becoming the first undrafted rookie quarterback ever to defeat the Cowboys. His performance placed him among rare company, joining Devlin Hodges and Tom Greene as the only undrafted rookies since 1950 to win in primetime within their first two career starts.

Daniels opened the night with a masterful 15‑play, 73‑yard touchdown drive that consumed 10:58 of clock — Tampa Bay’s longest scoring drive since data became available in 2001 and the second‑longest in franchise history. He went a perfect 8‑for‑8 passing on the march, becoming the only undrafted rookie quarterback since 1967 to complete his first eight passes of a game.

Irving’s Career Night Sparks Tampa Bay’s Ground Attack

Running back Bucky Irving delivered the most explosive performance of his young career, rushing 21 times for 165 yards and a touchdown while adding a receiving score. His 175 yards from scrimmage marked the third‑highest total of his career, highlighted by a 72‑yard run — the longest of his NFL tenure. Irving also surpassed the 2,000‑yard career rushing milestone, becoming the 13th player in franchise history to reach that mark and tying Warrick Dunn for the fourth‑fewest games needed to do so.

Irving’s 165 rushing yards were the most by any player against Dallas in a Cowboys home game since 2012.

Explosive Plays and Balanced Offense Drive Season‑High Output

Tampa Bay finished with 419 total yards of offense, including 241 on the ground — the team’s highest rushing output since 2024. The Buccaneers averaged 6.2 yards per carry, their best mark of the season and one of the top single‑game averages in franchise history when rushing 35 or more times.

Tez Johnson added a career‑long 64‑yard reception, while Emeka Egbuka contributed six catches for 38 yards and scored his first NFL rushing touchdown on a 14‑yard run. Tampa Bay recorded 24 first downs, its most in nearly a year.

Defense Controls Dallas and Forces Three Turnovers

The Buccaneers defense delivered one of its most complete efforts of the season, winning the turnover battle 3‑0 and holding Dallas to just 16 points — the Cowboys’ lowest output since 2025. Tampa Bay limited Dallas to only 50 rushing yards, becoming the first team since 2019 to hold the Cowboys to 16 or fewer points and 50 or fewer rushing yards in the same game.

Linebacker Alex Anzalone sealed the victory with an interception, his first as a Buccaneer and the fifth of his career. Yaya Diaby added his first career interception on a deflected pass, while Jacob Parrish posted a career‑best four passes defensed and matched his career high with nine tackles. Zyon McCollum contributed two passes defensed, continuing his strong season in coverage.

Tampa Bay’s secondary held star receiver CeeDee Lamb to just two catches for nine yards, one of the lowest totals of his career.

Special Teams Delivers Key Momentum Swing

Miles Killebrew forced a fumble on a kickoff return that was recovered by Kevin Knowles, marking the second career forced fumble for Killebrew and the second recovery for Knowles. The play helped preserve Tampa Bay’s momentum as the Buccaneers controlled the game’s final stages.

Bowles Surpasses Arians in Franchise Coaching History

With the victory, head coach Todd Bowles earned his 37th career win with Tampa Bay, including playoffs, surpassing Bruce Arians for the fourth‑most total wins by a Buccaneers head coach.
