Bodycare beauty chain on brink of collapse

Published

Health and beauty chain Bodycare is at risk of failure with advisors to the store and online retailer that employs around 1,500 people working to prevent it from collapsing, a report has claimed.

Sky News said it could collapse as early as next week and is seeking a rescuer to avoid administration.

The chain, which is currently run by former Beales chief Tony Brown, was founded on a Lancashire market stall some 55 years ago but Interpath has been working with it for several months and is continuing to do so, according to City sources.

It’s owned by Baaj Capital (which also owns In The Style and attempted to take over The Original Factory Shop this year) and the report of its problems comes only shortly after it secured a £7 million debt facility secured against its retail inventory.

The company, which sells brands from L’Oréal, to Nivea and Elizabeth Arden, has a long and successful history but was derailed by the pandemic. It had been profitable before the Covid crisis that devastated many in the retail sector.

Sky said that Bodycare, Baaj and Interpath haven’t commented on its story.
