The British Fashion Council (BFC) on Thursday announced the nominees for The Fashion Awards that will take place in London on 1 December.
Last year’s Designer of the Year Jonathan Anderson has been nominated again this year
The event — which is a vital fundraiser for the BFC Foundation — has an international reputation and it’s no surprise that the list of names nominated as Designer of the Year reflects that.
This particular award “recognises a British or international designer whose innovative collections have made a notable impact on the industry, defining the shape of global fashion”.
Meanwhile, the British Womenswear Designer of the Year recognises a leading name who’s “made a global impact with their innovative and creative designs, shaping the international womenswear landscape”. The nominees are Charlotte Knowles and Alexandre Arsenault for KNWLS, Emma Chopova and Laura Lowena for Chopova Lowena, Erdem Moralıoğlu for Erdem, Sarah Burton for Givenchy, and Simone Rocha.
The equivalent award for menswear will go to one of an impressive list including Craig Green, Foday Dumbuya for Labrum London, Grace Wales Bonner, Kiko Kostadinov, Nicholas Daley, and Stefan Cooke and Jake Burt for Stefan Cooke.
Meanwhile the Vanguard awards goes to a designer “at the forefront of a new wave in British fashion, demonstrating visionary creativity, cultural leadership and global influence and helping to shape the future of fashion”.
The shortlist here includes Aaron Esh, Dilara Fındıkoğlu, Feben, Steve O Smith, Tolu Coker, and Torishéju Dumi.
