Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu congratulated President Donald Trump on his “bold and historic leadership on behalf of freedom and justice” after the U.S. struck Venezuela and captured President Nicolás Maduro.
In a statement posted on his X account, the Israeli leader added “I salute your decisive resolve and the brilliant action of your brave soldiers.”
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, a Democrat, said he called Trump directly following the President’s press conference Saturday “to register my opposition to this act.”
Mamdani declined to say whether he had spoken to Trump about Maduro’s possible arrival in New York.
Mamdani said his stance was based on “being opposed to a pursuit of regime change to the violation of federal, international law.”
Mamdani said his role as Mayor was to ensure that the federal government’s plans for Maduro had “minimal impact on the day to day lives of New Yorkers.”
