U.S. Sen. Ashley Moody is celebrating Constitution Day like so many, and this year’s has special meaning for her.
A week after the assassination of conservative organizer and thought leader Charlie Kirk, the Plant City Republican says the tragedy is a potent reminder of how he valued freedom of expression, a key tenet of the Constitution itself.
“Today is Constitution Day. The document that laid out the framework of our government, the guaranteed our rights, the right of free speech, to all of our citizens, and it is so important that we remember that he led a life that fiercely advocated for that, and remembered that this country was built on protecting those rights,” Moody said on Newsmax.
Moody has “hope all Americans will not just honor the Constitution, our founding document, the highest law of our land, but celebrate the life of Charlie Kirk and the fact that he took on the fire and the energy and the dedication and the determination to fight what made this country is what it is today, and that is a country that protects the rights of its people to speak out and speak our mind and a civil discourse of ideas.”
“That was his life,” she said. “And I hope everyone can remember that today of all days.”
