U.S. Sen. Ashley Moody is getting support from the youth movement within Florida’s Republican Party.
The Florida Young Republicans are throwing their support behind Moody in her bid to return to the office. The Executive Committee of the Young Republicans voted unanimously to endorse Moody in the race.
“Senator Moody has hit the ground running from the start in D.C., holding our leaders in D.C. accountable for wasteful spending and serving as an original co-sponsor of the SAVE America Act; issues that will have an impact on young Americans for generations to come. Ashley Moody has Florida’s back in Washington, and we have hers here at home,” said Florida Young Republicans Chair Brandon Ludwig.
The Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) America Act is a bill designed to require voters to provide proof of citizenship when registering to vote. It would also require photo identification when casting a ballot. It’s been approved by the House, but not the Senate.
The Florida Young Republicans represent about 1,200 party activists in the state from 30 counties.
“Our nation is witnessing a powerful awakening among young voters, and I’m proud to have their support in Florida as we fight for the future of this great country,” Moody said.
Moody, who was appointed to fill now-Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s U.S. Senate seat, must stand for election in November. The winner will serve the last two years of Rubio’s six-year Senate term.
Moody is the clear front-runner in the Aug. 18 Primary, with five other Republican candidates running as well. The General Election takes place Nov. 3.
Meanwhile, there are several Democrats campaigning for the seat in that party’s Primary. Two prominent front-runners on the Democratic ticket include Alex Vindman, who lives in South Florida, and state Rep. Angie Nixon of Jacksonville.
There are two no-party candidates in the race as well.
Recent polls show Moody leading among all candidates.
