Alexis Yarbrough, Mario Zanotti-Cavazzoni reappointed to Broward College Board

Broward College District Board of Trustees Chair Alexis Yarbrough and Board member Mario Zanotti-Cavazzoni are keeping their posts.

Gov. Ron DeSantis reappointed both just under three years after he first named them to the five-member panel, which also includes Vice Chair Reggie Zachariah and Trustees Michael Caschette and Eileen LaMarca, wife of Republican Rep. Chip LaMarca.

Yarbrough, whom DeSantis also appointed to Disney World’s governing board last February, is a past Chair and Commissioner of the 4th District Court of Appeal Judicial Nominating Commission.

She holds a Juris Doctor from Nova Southeastern University and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Miami.

Yarborough worked as a lawyer at Fort Lauderdale law firm Tripp Scott before becoming the General Counsel for the Florida Department of Transportation.

Her husband, former DeSantis Chief of Staff Shane Strum, now leads — and is trying to merge — Broward Health and Memorial Healthcare System.

Zanotti-Cavazoni, a Weston resident, works as a Senior Adviser for Organizational Transformation at CONMEBOL, the South American soccer association that hosts the Copa América. CONMEBOL made news in mid-2024 when soccer fans created chaos at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens during the Copa América Final.

He earned a master’s degree in business administration from Universidad Católica de Asunción in Paraguay and a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul.

Previously, he worked as Senior Vice President of Latin America for telecommunications provider Millicom International.

Yarbrough and Zanotti-Cavazzoni’s reappointments are subject to confirmation by the Senate.

The Broward College District Board is the institution’s governing body, responsible for setting strategic direction, establishing policy, approving the annual budget and overseeing the management of college property and personnel.

The Governor appoints members to serve staggered four-year terms.
