U.S. Senate candidate Alex Vindman announced he raised $1.7 million in his first official day after launching his campaign.
That’s more than all other Democrats seeking to challenge U.S. Sen. Ashley Moody have reported, combined.
“I am grateful for the support of so many Floridians who donated to fuel our campaign, and our historic first-day showing makes clear that Floridians are ready to end the chaos and corruption and fire elite politicians like Ashley Moody who have rigged the system for themselves,” Vindman said.
The retired Army Lieutenant Colonel, best known as a whistleblower from President Donald Trump’s first presidential campaign, has teased a campaign for months and officially launched his campaign Tuesday morning.
“For over 20 years, I proudly served my country in combat in the Army. Now, I’m stepping up to fight the corruption and special interests that are driving up costs so we can make Florida a more affordable place to live, and Floridians from every corner of the state are stepping up with me by supporting our campaign,” Vindman said.
Full details on fundraising will not be available until the end of the quarter, but Vindman’s campaign said the first 24 hours saw a hefty number of donors. The campaign received more than 36,000 contributions in total, with 99% of those valued at $100 or less.
His campaign touted coverage of the launch that called Vindman a “high profile” candidacy.
Meanwhile, the campaign slighted Moody as “untested” and “vulnerable” despite Florida’s rightward swing in recent years.
Moody, a Plant City Republican, was appointed to her U.S. Senate seat by Gov. Ron DeSantis to fill a vacancy left when Marco Rubio was confirmed as Secretary of State.
Vindman enters a field that already includes some Democrats with significant statewide stature, most notably former Brevard County School Board member Jennifer Jenkins and state Rep. Angie Nixon.
Nixon also just announced this quarter and has not released fundraising numbers.
Jenkins through last September raised almost $166,000.
