What started out as alleged shoplifting turned into attempted murder when an Ohio man pulled a gun on a police officer inside a Walmart Thursday … and the whole thing was caught on tape.

Watch this insane video … 21-year-old Shane Newman appears anxious, chewing on his gloved fingers while sitting inside Walmart’s loss prevention office. You can see him sneakily turn his back to the camera, and when he turns back around … he produces a gun.

While aiming the weapon at an officer off-camera, you can hear what appears to be the click of Newman pulling the trigger, but the gun never goes off.

According to local outlet WOIO-TV, Newman was charged with attempted murder, felonious assault on a police officer, robbery, drug possession and having a weapon under disability.

A woman Newman was apprehended with — 23-year-old Katerina Jeffrey — was reportedly charged with complicity to commit a robbery.

19 News reports Newman was not allowed to own or have a firearm due to a previous felony conviction. They also report he was in possession of 50 blue pills identified as Molly — a.k.a. MDMA.

The U.S. Department of Justice released at least part of the Jeffrey Epstein Files Friday … following a congressional vote last month compelling the agency to make all evidence related to the investigation of the disgraced financier and convicted pedophile.

TMZ is analyzing the information … the Associated Press reports the material is expected to include FBI reports, transcripts of witness interviews, as well as video and photographic evidence related to the yearslong investigation. Victims’ names will be redacted.

Friday marked the DOJ’s deadline to the 30-day directive from Congress to release the files. Earlier today, Deputy AG Todd Blanche said the DOJ would not be able to release the full trove today, promising more to be released in the coming months.

Shortly afterward, Bondi and FBI Director Kash Patel formally closed the case, telling the public there was nothing left to investigate, and no further materials would be released … provoking an angry reaction from across the political spectrum. Deputy FBI Director Dan Bongino reportedly threatened to quit over the matter at the time … he’s since announced he’s leaving the agency next month.
