Gene Hackman’s New Mexico home is so huge, it took a while to find his body after his wife Betsy’s was found, a local fire official tells TMZ … giving us a detailed rundown of what went down when they arrived on the scene.
Santa Fe Fire Chief Brian Moya tells TMZ paramedics responded to a “man down” call from Gene’s address Wednesday with a fire engine and an ambulance, and rushed in through the unlocked front door — with sheriff’s deputies arriving later.
Moya tells us they found Betsy right away, on the floor of a bathroom near the front door. Their team is trained to spot obvious signs of death, and it was clear Betsy had passed — so no resuscitation efforts were made.
EMS workers immediately stepped back, waiting for sheriff’s deputies to arrive and take over the scene.
Moya tells us when deputies showed up, they did a full sweep of the massive house. He says it took them a while before they eventually found Gene in the mudroom kitchen.
Moya said Gene was obviously dead too, so no resuscitation efforts were performed.

Moya said paramedics were not aware of pills later found near Betsy’s body, or the dead dog in a closet of the bathroom — and there wasn’t anything unusual other than the bodies.
When Moya’s team arrived, they tested the environment for toxic fumes, but meters indicated the area was safe. Nothing came up as carbon monoxide, so they proceeded to walk around inside the home.
Fire personnel performed another check of the home Thursday, as did New Mexico Gas Company workers, confirming the area was safe.
All the info was handed over to the sheriff’s office for further investigation.
Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza told “TODAY” this morning the couple may have been dead for days, possibly even weeks.
Moya tells us nothing’s been ruled out yet when it comes to the cause of death, and he’s asking people not to jump to conclusions, saying the autopsy results will be key to getting the answers they need.

Diddy‘s ex-“Making The Band” singer Sara Rivers is coming at his neck in a new lawsuit, and the allegations stem from her time on the popular MTV series.
In a sprawling lawsuit, obtained by TMZ Hip Hop, Rivers claims the artist formerly known as Puff Daddy subjected her to mistreatment, which wound up becoming content for millions to see on TV.
The suit, filed by attorney Ariel Mitchell on behalf of Rivers, cites the infamous “cheesecake” from ‘MTB2’ where she and the rest of Da Band had to walk several blocks to get Diddy a sweet treat as one of the numerous incidents of abuse.
She also complains of being forced sleep in an open bay with 4 other males despite the fact she was married at the time, and says she was threatened with being ousted if she didn’t comply.
The suit also names MTV, Viacom and several ex-Bad Boy employees who had a profile on the series at the time … including Diddy’s mother, Janice, and ex-assistant Fonzworth Bentley.
Sara goes on to allege Diddy acted maliciously and recklessly with her career by publicly dismantling the group while pocketing most of her show money.
She also claims Diddy sexually harassed and assaulted her, claiming he once backed her into a corner and blocked her from moving while running his hand across her breasts.
She’s demanding damages from Diddy and the others.
Diddy’s legal team fired back, telling TMZ … “This is yet another example of false claims being filed against Mr. Combs. No matter how many lawsuits are filed, it won’t change the fact that Mr. Combs has never sexually assaulted or sex trafficked anyone—man or woman, adult or minor. We live in a world where anyone can file a lawsuit for any reason. With the deadline for New York’s Gender-Motivated Violence Act expiring tomorrow, it’s clear that opportunists are rushing to file last-minute, meritless claims. Mr. Combs remains confident he will prevail in court.”
