Gervonta “Tank” Davis‘ retirement might come sooner than he expected … ’cause Lamont Roach tells TMZ Sports he plans to knock him out on March 1st and end his career.

Tank claims he’s hanging up his gloves at the end of the year, but will enter the ring several more times before his departure — starting with his matchup against Roach, who he’ll face at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Roach, a 25-1 super featherweight, is well aware of Tank’s plans … and is determined to interrupt his agenda by making him quit earlier with a knockout.

“I worked my ass off,” Roach said of the fight. “If he’s on his way out, why not kick his ass out?!”

Despite Roach’s confidence, he’s seen as a major underdog in the 12-round bout … considering Tank, an undefeated southpaw, is regarded as the face of boxing and often compared to a young Mike Tyson.

However, the doubt doesn’t bother Roach — in fact, he uses it as motivation.

“I like to prove people wrong and I damn sure like to prove myself right,” Roach said.

“Right now, they really got me f’d up. So, you know, I got it on the agenda to upset a lot of people.”

Overall, Roach said it’s going to be the fight of the year and a start to his legacy run — after, he will look to fight another champ in the ring next, either at 130 or 135.

Alex Rodriguez proved he’s a baller on the baseball diamond and the hardwood … ’cause he tossed up a shot Sunday from halfcourt and made it — helping out one lucky student in the process.

The former Yankees third baseman was in attendance to watch Army take on Bucknell University Saturday afternoon in basketball … and, during halftime he was invited to take a huge shot from the middle of the floor.

Check out the vid … A-Rod — clad in a bright orange Bucknell t-shirt — tosses the ball up, hits the backboard and the ball goes straight through the hoop.

Rodriguez scoops the student up into a big hug right after he won him the money … a moment that has to feel more like a dream than real life for this lucky fan.

BTW … Bucknell crushed Army, 84-53 — so, it was a pretty darn good day all around for Bucknell U.

Jane Fonda used her Screen Actors Guild Lifetime Award speech to warn her fellow actors about impending political decisions … saying they need to look out for one another — ’cause a whole lot of bad is headed their way.

The veteran actress spoke at Sunday night’s ceremony … and, while the at-times rambling speech touched a number of different topics, the crux of the speech was a warning to her fellow stars.

Jane focuses on empathy in the address … saying actors get to open people up to a variety of new ideas and concepts, and stars would need every bit of their empathy in the days ahead.

Interesting enough, Fonda never mentions President Donald Trump by name … but, it seems clear she’s referring to his administration’s policies in her speech.

Jane says this is the “documentary moment” — listen to the speech all the way through to hear what she means by that.

As you know …Fonda’s been an activist for years — fighting for the environment, voting rights and host of other liberal causes.
