State Sen. Debbie Mayfield is throwing her support behind business lawyer Robyn Hattaway in a four-candidate GOP Primary in House District 31.
“Robyn Hattaway is a constitutional conservative who will go to Tallahassee to fight for President Trump’s agenda without apology,” Mayfield said. “I trust Robyn to work with me to lower insurance premiums for Space Coast families, protect universal school choice, cut taxes, and stand firm in protecting our Second Amendment rights.”
The district covers the heart of the Space Coast, encompassing parts of Brevard County including Cape Canaveral, Cocoa Beach, Merritt Island and portions of Titusville. Incumbent state Rep. Tyler Sirois won the seat with 63% of the vote in 2024, but is term-limited and is now running unopposed for the Brevard County Commission.
Hattaway spent four years on the Canaveral Port Authority Commission and unsuccessfully ran for the House in 2022, losing to state Rep. Chase Tramont in the GOP Primary for House District 30. She touted Mayfield’s endorsement, calling her “one of President Donald Trump’s strongest allies in the Florida Legislature.”
Mayfield was first elected to the Legislature in 2008, and has served stints in both chambers representing Brevard County. She was Senate Majority Leader from 2020 to 2022, briefly served in the House again, and won a Special Election in June 2025 to fill the seat vacated by U.S. Rep. Randy Fine when he resigned to run for congress.
“Her endorsement signals that Robyn Hattaway is a rock-solid Pro-Trump conservative Space Coast conservatives can trust,” read a statement from Hattaway’s campaign celebrating the endorsement.
Hattaway’s website identifies her key priorities as bringing down insurance rates, cutting property taxes, fighting illegal immigration, eliminating “leftist ideology” from schools and supporting Second Amendment rights.
Other Republican candidates in the race to succeed Sirois include former Satellite Beach City Council Member Mindy Gibson, businessman Marcus Herman and educator Matt Woodside.
Campaign finance reports through June 12 show Hattaway leading the way in fundraising with $155,000 in contributions. Herman is next with $107,000, then Woodside with $41,000 and Gibson with $27,000.
Democrat Daniel Cicirelli has also qualified to run in the reliably Republican district, but has only raised $2,800. The Primary is Aug. 18.
