Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri is endorsing Nancy Bostock for Pinellas County School Board.
Bostock is running for the District 6 seat to replace Stephanie Meyer, who is not seeking re-election.
“Nancy is the experienced leader Pinellas families deserve fighting for them on the School Board,” Gualtieri said. “Student safety is paramount and strong partnership between the Sheriff’s office and the School District is key. I have worked with Nancy and know that she will put students first and prioritize student safety. I am proud to endorse her campaign for Pinellas School Board.”
Bostock previously served on the School Board from 1998 until 2008 before being elected to the Pinellas County Commission in 2008, where she served one term.
Bostock called Gualtieri’s support an honor.
“Pinellas County is safer thanks to our first-rate law enforcement and Sheriff Gualtieri’s leadership,” she said. “Sheriff Gualtieri’s commitment to working in partnership with our School District and protecting our children is exceptional. I look forward to working with him and all our law enforcement leaders to protect our students.”
Gualtieri’s support comes after Bostock also secured support from five of nine Pinellas legislative delegation members, including Sens. Nick DiCeglie and Ed Hooper, and Reps. Linda Chaney, Berny Jacques and Kim Berfield, all Republicans. Meyer has also endorsed Bostock as her preferred successor.
Bostock also earned endorsements from a majority of the Pinellas County Commission.
Five members on the seven-person board backed her, including Commission Chair Dave Eggers, Vice Chair Chris Latvala and Commissioners Vince Nowicki, Chris Scherer and Brian Scott.
Bostock has also landed support from incumbent Dawn Peters and from former School Board members Lucille Casey, Carol Cook, Ken Peluso and Ron Walker.
Bostock, who announced her campaign in January, will focus her campaign on maximizing student outcomes, providing transparency for parents and ensuring resources are directed toward classrooms.
A lifelong Pinellas County resident, Bostock attended Clearwater High School. She earned a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Florida and a master’s degree in education from the University of South Florida. She serves as President and CEO of Chemical Standard Laboratory, a company that produces a line of specialty chemical standards.
