Broward County Republican Michael Carbonara is making a serious run at one of Florida’s most entrenched incumbents, and his latest fundraising report suggests the race for Florida’s 25th Congressional District is one to watch.
On Monday, Carbonara announced he raised $2,526,427 for his campaign against Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz. That’s about $800,000 more than his end-of-year total and more than any other challenger has raised against the longtime South Florida Democrat in the 2024 election cycle.
“This marks the beginning of the end of Debbie’s multi-decade-long hold over her constituents,” Carbonara said. “Congressional District 25 is overdue for new leadership to finally answer the call to action, when it comes to representing the people’s interests, and today I carry a lot of honor and gratitude for those who have supported the campaign.”
His fundraising success is just one sign of his campaign’s momentum. Carbonara has also received endorsements from several local leaders, including Weston Mayor Peggy Brown, Coconut Creek City Commissioner John Brodie, and Pompano Beach City Commissioner Audrey Fesik.
Carbonara, who has experience in banking and cryptocurrency, is focusing on digital outreach as a key part of his campaign. His launch video has been viewed over 9 million times, and he has attracted hundreds of thousands of followers on Facebook, Instagram, X, and TikTok.
The campaign is also getting noticed for its unusual approach to campaign finance. Carbonara keeps a public blockchain wallet, invests campaign funds in bitcoin, and lets supporters see assets and spending in real time.
Carbonara’s campaign focuses on affordability, prosperity, and economic opportunity. He promises to be accountable to the people of Florida’s 25th Congressional District.
