Nancy Bostock lands support from majority of Pinellas legislative delegation

A majority of the Pinellas County legislative delegation is now backing Nancy Bostock in her Pinellas County School Board bid, with five of nine delegation members endorsing her.

Supporters include Sens. Nick DiCeglie and Ed Hooper and Reps. Linda Chaney, Berny Jacques and Kim Berfield, all Republicans.

“Nancy Bostock is a tireless advocate for students and parents. She understands how to work effectively with legislators to deliver results for our students,” said DiCeglie, adding a nod to her past experience.

“Her experience on the School Board, the County Commission, and in our community gives her the unique ability to bridge the gap between Tallahassee and our local classrooms. Pinellas County needs her leadership, and I’m proud to endorse her campaign.”

Bostock previously served on the School Board from 1998 until 2008 before being elected to the Pinellas County Commission in 2008, where she served one term.

Bostock said she was honored to receive support from key members of the Pinellas delegation, which includes Hooper as budget chief for the upper chamber.

“Our students and parents deserve leaders at every level of government who will work together to put them first. I look forward to partnering with our legislative delegation to ensure our schools have the resources and support they need to drive student success,” Bostock said in a statement following the endorsements.

The support comes after earlier this month Bostock also landed support from a majority of the Pinellas County Commission.

Five of the seven-member board backed her, including Commission Chair Dave Eggers, Vice Chair Chris Latvala and Commissioners Vince NowickiChris Scherer and Brian Scott.

She also secured support from incumbent School Board member Stephanie Meyer, whom Bostock is running to succeed. She also landed support from incumbent Dawn Peters and from former School Board members Lucille Casey, Carol CookKen Peluso and Ron Walker.

Meyer was first elected to the School Board in 2022 and chose not to seek re-election after her first term.

Bostock, who announced her campaign in January, will focus her campaign on maximizing student outcomes, providing transparency for parents and ensuring resources are directed toward classrooms.

A lifelong Pinellas County resident, Bostock attended Clearwater High School. She earned a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Florida and a master’s degree in education from the University of South Florida. She serves as President and CEO of Chemical Standard Laboratory, a company that produces a line of specialty chemical standards.
