St. Johns County implements fleet management application for handling county vehicles

‘This application streamlines how we manage fleet maintenance and improves communication between departments.’

St. Johns County is employing a digital application that will help manage hundreds of government vehicles that serve the Northeast Florida municipality.

The “Fleet Manager” scheduling application enables county staff to more easily schedule vehicle maintenance assignments and repairs. The platform allows county workers to choose their vehicle and available service times while earmarking issues and problems coupled with notes and photos.

“This application streamlines how we manage fleet maintenance and improves communication between departments,” said Rocky S. Agbunag, Information Systems Officer for St. Johns County Public Works. “By integrating scheduling, notifications, and data tracking into one system, we are enhancing efficiency and helping our teams stay focused on serving residents.”

The Fleet Manager platform is produced by the Publics Works Information Systems Division to help connect fleet operations with different county divisions that rely on heavy equipment for duties, according to a county news release. Some of the St. Johns County divisions using the platform include the Utilities Department, Traffic Operations, Road and Bridge Division and others that incorporate data integration and mapping technology.

“The Fleet Manager application has streamlined how departments schedule service and helped us prioritize maintenance needs to keep County vehicles safe and operational,” said Lewis Caudle, Asset Management Coordinator for Public Works Fleet Maintenance. “In some cases, we are able to use GPS location data and coordinate directly with crews in the field to respond quickly and get vehicles back in service with minimal disruption.”

The platform also provides maintenance history, conditions of vehicles and other information that’s fed nearly instantly to crews in the field of St. Johns County.  That information allows crews to coordinate efforts and identify issues in field operations.

All that, county officials say, provides more informed decisions about what resources are needed in infrastructure projects and leads to the right equipment being dispatched to different projects going on throughout the county.
